Everyone knows that the devil is in the details, & when it comes to worship, the “details” are capitulating to culture by using pagan instruments in worship. There is a long history of paganism, ancestor worship, and spiritism in Africa… BUT.. let me connect the dots for you with a simple mathematical equation:
Africa is steeped in spiritism + Spiritism is built upon paganism (devil worship) + Africans use drums in worship+ the evangelical church is using drums in worship!= the amount of drums used in worship are directly correlated to the amount of paganism in worship! COINCIDENCE? I THINK NOT!!!!!
But, with all of the pressure to “reach the masses” what’s a church to do? The solution is, of course, ELECTRONIC DRUM KITS!! There are many bonuses to using electronic drum kits:
1.) if the praise band gets out of hand, the pastor or elders can pull the plug!
2.) there’s a volume button! No more pesky drums messing with Aunt Edna’s hearing aid
3.) No one else in America uses electronic drum kits, so it is not really a devils instrument like regular drums. Using electronic drums allows you to “redeem” the instrument for God’s purposes!
4.) They are bland and not shiny and showy. This is in keeping with God’s design for modesty.
5.) You can hide the drummer much more easily b/c the kit is small and lightweight. Drummers move way too much while playing and that could be a distraction! We are the frozen chosen! A decent sized organ can easily hide an electronic kit!
So.. as you can see, the electronic drum kit provides Christians with the best of both worlds! You can have the devil’s instrument without the devil, what could be better?
P.S. I found this after originally posting on electronic kits, I believe this is called, ‘hitting the nail on the head.” Here is how Yamaha actually leads off their website advertising for electronic drum kits:
“In church during a worship service, your drum sound needs to be both controllable and inspirational. The DTXPLORER gives you a superb level of control. As an electronic kit, there is little or no acoustic noise coming off the pads and a completely tailorable level of both individual pads and the overall kit. Playing and storage space is also important. Unless you are resident in a cathedral, chances are the band will be a little pushed for space. The last thing anyone needs is a mass of heavy hardware to have to keep moving around—or storing. The DTXPLORER can be both assembled and broken down in a few minutes, or simply picked up en mass and stored in an adjoining room or storage area.”
The funniest thing is that they are actually selling a MUSICAL INSTRUMENT based on it having “little or no noise coming off the pads.” Notice they also assume that the drums will have to be moved around on a regular basis! HILARIOUS!

Brilliant! Another music themed “Stuff Christians Like” could be non-distorted electric guitars that are not allowed to be run through an amp. All the same logic from the drum kit could apply to that topic.

Oh snap. Alternatively we could just sanctify our heathenish acoustic (real) drums with Holy Water. Try doing that with electronics.
